Mattress Max was founded by Mike and Peggy Jolly in 1970, as a small sewing machine shop in Spartanburg. Which has since grown into one of the largest Furniture and Mattress stores in the upstate. Now in the second generation of ownership Mattress Max Furniture continues to find success by offering great selection of quality furniture and mattresses at low prices in a family friendly environment.
Mike and Peggy Jolly came to Spartanburg in 1970, with four children in tow, to open a sewing machine shop. They opened the Sew EZ Shoppe on North Church Street with the belief that successful business was founded on building personal relationships with the customer. The business grew to include furniture and mattresses. As the business grew so did the children, all of whom played an active role in the business’s success.
The store is now named Mattress Max Furniture, after the character "Mattress Max" played by Mike Jolly in commercials for so many years. The silly commercials were beloved by many, especially children, until Mike’s passing in 2006.
The family business is now operated by Mike Jolly Jr. and Jeff Jolly. They have a great deal of help from their sister, Ruthanne Hall and the best staff in the industry, which now includes a third generation of family members.
After 45+ years of serving upstate consumers, many of whom have been lifelong or multi-generational customers, the belief that business should be about people first still prevails at Mattress Max Furniture.
